Mumbai Indians will remember every moment of the turnaround made in the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday.
Rohit Sharma in a chase of 206, DC were at 145 for 4, needing 61 runs in the remaining 7 overs to win. MI requested a ball change, which got approved by the umpires, and then began a never-ending thriller. The tie turned in Hardik Pandya’s favor, eventually drowning DC by a meager 12 runs. After the conclusion of the match, it was disclosed that Rohit Sharma was the mastermind of MI’s victory.
When the ball was changed just after the 13th over, team member Rohit Sharma from the dugout, substituted by his impact replacement Karn Sharma, instructed Hardik that spin would have to be brought into the attack. The plan was a pure Ro-MI-t success as there was not even a hint of moisture left on the ball. Shots aired by the host broadcaster showed that Rohit had a discussion with MI’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and head coach Mahela Jayawardene before sending instructions into the ground.
Karun Nair’s 89 off 40 went in vain as Mumbai Indians recorded a thrilling 12-run win over Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing 206, DC were bundled out for 193, losing their last three wickets as run-out in just one over. DC switched to self-destruction mode, courtesy MI’s tight bowling in the slog overs.
Earlier, Tilak Varma played a gritty knock of fifty as MI posted a total of 205 for 5, after having been sent into bat first. Tilak smashed 59 off 33 balls, laced with 6 fours and 3 sixes. MI were further well supported by Ryan Rickelton with 41 runs, Suryakumar Yadav with 40, and Naman Dhir with 38 not out. With figures of 2 for 23 in his four overs, Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the best bowler for Delhi.
In the second innings, MI made a comeback, thanks to the spin duo of Mitchell Santner and Karn Sharma (3 for 36). DC batters’ poor running in the 19th over also helped MI’s cause as the Hardik-led side registered a narrow win.
This also was only the second win for MI in six matches in IPL 2025. In the first match, Hardik and Jasprit Bumrah were absent. The captain returned to the team after the first match, whereas Bumrah joined the side from the fifth match.
